PREFACE
On June 29th, 2022, on Main Beach, on the cobblestone, as the City of Laguna Beach celebrated its 95th anniversary “Remembering our Legacy”, Toni Iseman spoke eloquently of the community, the future, and what it may bring, in the year 2027, when Laguna Beach celebrates its 100th anniversary. To sum up her message and mantra in just 5 words, it was clear, “your voices must be heard”.
With that, I suggest a “voice” that is a new model and a new approach. One that utilizes the advantages of new technologies while preserving and protecting the cultural legacy and charm of Laguna Beach. A simple "five-year strategy" model complete with implementation action plans and milestones. A strategy that is not too long to be dismissed and forgotten, but is long enough to measure progress and be able to adapt and change course as may be needed. It utilizes "first principals" and "simple processes" as its prime dynamics and it fits nicely here, for the coming 100th anniversary of Laguna Beach.
The following presentation may at first seem radical, but keep in mind Laguna Beach has a history of being radical substantially independent, and unique. From the first to arrive with a bohemian free culture, to the "Age of Aquarius" and the live and let live culture of the 60's. It all fostered a thriving creative community and an inclusive and accepting one that moved from the end of the century to today keeping its original DNA. Much is said about the "ART" of Laguna Beach, but a lot more can be said about the preservation and environmental protection Laguna Beach has fostered and stewarded. From Laguna Canyon's 20,000-acre South Coast Wilderness area of open spaces to the Marine Protected Reserve, Pacific Marine Mammal Center. The list is long.
For certain, the intent here is to proactively continue the legacy and tradition of Laguna Beach that it may live on in perpetuity.
IMMIDATE RESPONSE TO CLIMATE CHANGE AND THE COMMUNITY HAZARED IT PRESENTS:
Better to be proactive in mitigating environmental disasters than to prepare to accept them. Develop a cost-effective with revenue potential solar and power storage system to allow an independent cost-saving and profitable Peaker Power Generating District of Laguna Beach, while minimizing the above-ground high-level power line requirement and mitigating the fire risk exposure.
MANAGE THE NARATIVE, BUILD THE BRAND, and CHAMPION THE CULTURE WITH TRANSPARANCY:
Utilize all the social and news mediums cohesively to present an accurate, well-orchestrated, and intimate representation of the greater community of Laguna Beach. Engage in social opportunities that drive the narrative in the best direction to obtain the objective. Craft the messages to support the strategies and objectives of pillars one and three of this 5-year plan.
DEVELOP & INTEGRATE PERFORMANCE ART PROGRAMS AND PERFORMANCE ART FESTIVALS:
Add and integrate the new artistic expressive medium of Performance and Interactive Art in an introductory manner to further establish Laguna Beach as an art-centric world leader. Foster a culture that includes an annual “Performance Art Festival” and related year-round precedence-setting performance activities designed to attract a local and international following.
